Founded in 1964, R.J. Stumpf Construction is a full-service General Contractor that has operated in Snowmass Village and the Roaring Fork Valley since 1975. Our tradition of quality custom building spans two generations and over 50 years of service. Our work and reputation stands the test of time, providing our clients with confidence that we will fulfill their vision and be there for them long after their projects are complete.
Our vast scope of experience includes construction of 7,000+ sqft luxury custom homes, renovation of multi-family units, repair and remediation work, and smaller scale specialty projects. We are accustom to working in a team with owners, design professionals and property managers to orchestrate the creation of spectacular places to live, while completing projects on time and on budget.
Richard Stumpf II
President, General Contractor
Richard is a Roaring Fork Valley native and owner of RJ Stumpf Construction. He has over 18 years of experience in construction management and development.
Richard learned the contracting trade from his father and took over management of RJ Stumpf Construction in 2006.
Prior to managing construction, Richard worked for design firms specializing in land planning and development assistance in Scottsdale, Arizona.
With a background in urban design, Richard is proficient in design build projects having architecturally designed, engineered and built residential structures. Richard is skilled in CAD and other design programs that allow him to communicate design challenges and solutions visually through creation of construction documents, drawings and renderings.
Richard is a graduate of Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Geography - Geographic Information Science and a Minor in Urban Planning.
When he's not building, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring single track on his mountain bike and the backcountry on skis.
Dick Stumpf
Founder, Retired
Dick founded RJ Stumpf Construction in 1964. He moved to Snowmass Village in 1975 after falling in love with the community while serving in the US Army at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs.
Dick built over 200 residential and commercial buildings throughout his career as a hands-on General Contractor.
Dick attended Pennsylvania State University as an Industrial Arts major and served in the US Army as an Army Aviation Crew Chief.
Dick lives in Basalt and enjoys his retirement by snowmobiling, traveling and serving on the Board of Directors of the Basalt Sanitation District.
